Batteries and chargers

The workshop selects third-party batteries and chargers based on how well they match your gear. Check the format, the chemistry and the current limits before comparing capacity. Charging, insulation and transport are all part of the choice.

How to choose

Check each specification separately

The format tells you the size family. Capacity, in mAh, and continuous discharge current, in amps, are two other specifications. Start with your device's requirements and the manufacturer's datasheet. The selection of third-party gear made by the workshop does not replace this reading.

Plan for charging and transport

An external charger must support the chemistry, dimensions and charge current intended for the cell. The discharge current does not carry over to the charge setting. Inspect the wrap and insulators before use, then carry spare batteries in a suitable case.

For a mechanical mod, the operating guide links the choice of battery to the measured build. Also see the gear manuals. A cell of uncertain origin or condition should stay out of service.

Frequently asked questions

Is the charge current the same as the continuous discharge current?
No. They are two separate limits. Follow the charge current stated for the cell and the charger's instructions.
Can I carry a loose battery in my pocket?
Use a suitable insulating case. The contacts must not touch keys, coins or other metal objects.
